Jack McClelland Has an Opinion Worth Listening To

February 3, 2010

There are a few people who you know can handle a poker tournament unlike anyone else. There are just some people who understand how a poker tournament should be run, and have run enough of them to know when you are making a mistake and when you are bound to have a great tournament. The Bellagio’s Jack McClelland is one of those people who understand a great poker tournament.

McClelland has been the Master of Ceremonies for many a poker tournament, and he is currently getting ready to handle the World Poker Tour’s Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Just recently he sat down with Dan Cypra of Poker News Daily and the things that he told him should give a new understanding to other poker players and professionals about what it takes to undertake a tournament that is larger than you can even imagine.

This is his ninth year handling the Five Diamond and as it starts right after Thanksgiving he has a lot of work ahead of him. He says that he really does have it down by now and he knows how many poker tables he needs for each event, and where they should go. He understands the ins and outs of the event, and knows that, for example, that the Fortuna Lounge will be completely closed down and filled with poker tables.

He says that there has been some signs of the recession at the poker tables at the Bellagio, and that they have been hit “just like the rest of the world.” He says that people are still playing but because they don’t like to show that things are not as good as they once were they have a tendency to keep playing, just play lower. This of course makes it tough on the poker tournaments the way that they are traditionally run – but it is still business. It is a great article for anyone interested in poker, and you should go to Poker News Daily to read the rest of it.
