Poker Magazine Still Going
February 3, 2010
In this economy it can be tough for anyone to get by, never mind excel. But
you will find that there are some entities that are doing just that. They
are either hanging in there or they are finding that they are doing well.
Some were scraping and now they have found that things have turned around
for them – Poker Pro Magazine falls into that category.
They say that with the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement
Act, or UIGEA, that they saw their numbers go down, but now they have come
back up. They say that as a poker magazine they really rely mostly on their
advertisers, who initially started dropping out. As soon as the UIGEA was
passed, they took a big hit to their budget, but they soon saw those
numbers come back up. They realized that poker players are still reading the
magazine whether the US thought the industry was legal or not.
They say that they did not see a problem with sales because they rely so
little on sales. Most poker players expect to get their publications for
free – and this one is no different. They make their money from advertising,
not sales. They said that since they are a small company they were able to
rebound from the hits they had but some companies are not as lucky.
Poker playing is never going to go away, and they are aware of that. No
matter what the government says or what the industry does, poker playing is
here to stay. This can be seen in the small private games that people play –
all the way to the large casinos. They might not be able to play poker
online, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t going to play it.
