Harrah’s Gets Big Awards
February 3, 2010
The mega entertainment group, Harrah’s Entertainment, has just gotten a slew
of awards for going green. In this day and age, sustainability compiled with
a hard and fervent desire to be as green as you can be, is something that
most corporations are working toward attaining. Not only will it save money
in the long run for the corporation, but let’s face it, it looks good too.
Harrah’s has been practicing sustainability for some time now and have
really made it into a science. This in turn has paid off for the company not
just economically, but also in the form of awards. They have just received
seven gold medals from Travelife – which is an organization that promotes
sustainability within the tourism industry. It is quite a big deal to get
one, but to get seven is incredible.
In addition to changing how much water or electricity, etc. that their land
based casinos are using, they have also applied it to their World Series of
Poker franchise. They have put an eco friendly poker table on display as
part of the poker tournament’s festivities, and was designed by EGM Green.
The table was auctioned off and the money went toward green efforts.
The poker table can be used by all of the casinos that want to, and those
casinos that choose to install the poker table will get Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED) credits. This will go a long way in helping
them in their goals of green as well, and it all comes from a poker table.
