Poker Complaint Resolved
February 3, 2010
The Palms Resort Casino in Las Vegas has settled a complaint that was
brought against them regarding the way a poker tournament was held in their
casino. They have agreed to pay $100,000 to settle the complaint and have
admitted that they did not correctly supervise a pair of poker tournaments
in 2007.
In addition to that fine, they also have to pay another $75,000 to the
Nevada Gaming Commission for the error, as well as another $25,000 to the
Nevada Gaming Control for the cost of the investigation into the matter.
Much of this has to do not so much with the tournament itself, rather what
happened after the poker tournament was completed.
A complaint was brought against them by the state attorney general’s office
where they said that the tournaments that were being held were being held by
third party companies that were not registered with the state. The Palms was
using their license to legalize the poker tournaments. This was only
discovered though after the prize money for the poker tournaments was left
unpaid after it was completed.
They said that the Palms was responsible for the poker tournaments and it
was their job to ensure that everything was paid according to the rules and
regulations of the game. After the completion of the Poker League’s Poker
Bowl everyone said it was a success because they had managed to bring in
some of the biggest names in the industry. However, the Poker Bowl’s founder
was unable to pay the winners as he was having financial difficulties. Some
said it was because he let so many poker professions play for free – and
therefore there wasn’t enough money at the end to pay everyone out.
