Brunson’s Autobiography is Ready
February 3, 2010
It is an event that many poker players have been looking forward to – Doyle
Brunson’s Autobiography is finally out on shelves. The book, entitled
“Godfather of Poker” was released November 11th and poker players are
already lining up to see what he has to say. The book has 32 pages of tales
and images for poker players to ooh and aah over – and it really is proving
to be a best seller already.
The book about the poker wizard has some amazing moments – such as the time
he was robbed at gunpoint and his wife was at home. He returned home after
winning his eighth World Series of Poker bracelet only to find two gunmen on
his front doorstep. They threw him in the house and he hollered that he was
having a heart attack. When the alarm went off he told the alarm company a
false code in hopes of getting help. He leaves us at the end of Book 1
wondering how he got himself out of the mess.
Brunson comes by poker honestly, as his father was a poker player as well.
In fact, Brunson said that poker really became a family game. He says that
his father made a good amount of money off of playing poker and used that
money to support his family. He says that he played poker when he went off
to college and they told him to stop. When he didn’t he ended up in front of
a disciplinary board.
It is these kinds of stories that Brunson tells that keeps you wondering and
wanting more. One would venture to say that most poker players do not have
as interesting a story to tell, but then who would have thought this of
Brunson?
