Poker Player Under Arrest
February
29, 2009
Usually when you hear a story
about a poker player under arrest it is usually because they have been
caught playing poker and the state that they are in are trying to prosecute
them for what it essentially a legal sport. However, not quite as common is
an actual crime story regarding the poker player, and not usually something
this violent.
Ernie Scherer III is being held without bail at a Las Vegas jail on charges
that he murdered his parents. The poker player’s parents were found murdered
last year, and he has been under investigation by the police. Las year he
was listed as a “person of interest” in the crime.
His parents were beaten to death in their California home, where they were
found. Scherer is being held on a warrant that was issued out of Alameda
County, California. He allegedly killed his mother, Charlene Abendroth, 57
and his father, Ernie Scherer, Jr., 60 – and they were found roughly a week
after the murder took place.
He was arrested Monday night and taken to prison. It is unclear what
evidence they have against the poker player, but his home was searched and
his car was seized in the investigation. His father had played some poker as
well, but was not a professional the way his son was. However, he was a full
time real estate investor and his wife of 31 years taught at Cal State East
Bay. A court date has not been set yet.
