The World Poker Tour has made a decision that is sure to make a lot of local
poker players not very happy. The poker tour has decided that during the
seventh season of the championship they are only going to make one stop in
the state of Mississippi. This makes those in the state of Mississippi
unhappy because they thought that they would have more than one stop as per
usual for the poker tour, but now that has changed.
They were trying to decide if they should stick with tradition and pend
January at the Gold Strike Casino in Tunica, just as they have done the
previous six seasons that the poker tournament has run. But there was an
option of possibly going to the MGM Beau Rivage in Biloxi instead. They
decided to go with the Beau Rivage so they will be hosting the poker
championship instead.
The main poker championship will start this Wednesday and will continue on
from there for the next four days. The new Southern Poker Champion will be
decided on Saturday, January 17th. This is of course after all of the
preliminary events have wrapped up, and they will be done as of Tuesday,
January 13th.
Last season the Beau Rivage proved to be more popular than initially
speculated. They has more than 250 players put down their $10,000 to
participate in the poker game. This is fairly amazing when you consider it
was in the middle of hurricane season. That time around Bill Edler won the
top prize of $747,615 – plus he got a $25,000 seat in the World Poker Tour
Championship.
