Nazari Wins Poker Prize
January
21, 2009
Poorya Nazari, a 22 year old poker player from Richmond Hill has won one of
the largest poker prizes outside of Las Vegas. Nazari has won $3 million in
a poker prize, and many wonder what on Earth he is going to do with it. He
is actually very new to the world of poker, although it has long been a
hobby of his.
He has a biochemistry degree from McMaster University and has been playing
poker since he was a sophomore in high school – although this is his first
foray into online poker playing for any real money. He has always seemed
like he had a penchant for playing poker and that he was gifted in both
poker and math, and his mother says that he came easily to it.
He started playing online poker on PokerStars – which is easily one of the
largest online poker playing sites out there today. He has been making
enough money at poker playing over the last few years to be able to support
himself without needing any kind of other outside job, so one can see that
he was doing well at the game.
This years’ poker tournament brought in more than a thousand players and of
those players 746 had done like Nazari and won their seat online as opposed
to having to compete for it. He had qualified through a rebuy turbo
tournament which lets you buy back into the poker game even if you have lost
money.
