A Poker Interview
January
21, 2009
Poker great Isaac Baron gave a recent interview with Poker News Daily and
had some very interesting things to say about the game and where it has
taken him. He talked about how he got his start, and what his biggest
accomplishment was – all in all it was a very rewarding interview.
Baron said that he got his start by watching the 2003 World Series of Poker
with some friends, and his interest grew from there. He said that they
started playing poker for fun, but eventually it got very competitive. He
said that when he first started he didn’t really know anything about the
game of poker, but that he soon realized some very important things about
the game.
For instance, he discovered that folding is not losing. Now to most amateur
poker players, that seems a little crazy. But not to beat an old Kenny
Rogers’ song to death – but you really do need to know when to hold them,
and when to fold them.
He says that coming from a sports background it made it difficult for him to
grasp the fact that by folding his cards he was living to see another round,
not losing. He said initially every time he folded he felt like he had lost,
which simply is not the case in poker. You can tell from the interview that
there is a real love of the game of poker, and interested readers should
check it out – it is a great read.
