Duke Comes Back to Poker
January
21, 2009
Annie Duke recently wrote an article regarding her love for poker and how it
has changed her life. What was interesting about it was that she said that
although she is known for her love of poker, she actually gets to play very
little of it. It seems that once you get to be known for the game of poker,
there is a lot to follow.
She said that she took off almost six months from playing poker after the
Main Event of the World Series of Poker. Her first foray back was the
Bellagio Five Diamond $15,000 poker tournament, and could not figure out how
it took her so long to get back to the table.
She said that she always takes off the month after the World Series of Poker
so that was nothing new – and she fully expected to be off the month of
July. But then she was still not playing. She filmed the “Best Damn Poker
Show” for UltimateBet.com in September which kept her from the Bike poker
tournament, and then couldn’t go to WSOP Europe because it conflicted with
Aruba.
Then when she went to play poker at Aruba she couldn’t because she had
already scheduled a show in New York. And then it went on and on from there
with one or another event keeping her from playing poker. She said that it
was a shock to her that she had been away from playing poker for so long,
and that it felt like her life had gotten out of control.
So she has taken steps to make sure that she is never off from poker that
long. She says that this is what brings her joy, and that she never wants to
take six months off again!
