Empire Poker Review
As good a place as
Empire Poker Room is
to play
online poker, they could help themselves out more if they just put some extra
energy into their website and back-end operations. First off, the action
there is great. Always a ton of players, there are plenty of tables and
games to choose from at Empire. However, in terms of content, Empire
Poker's website is inferior to most other online poker rooms. One
speculation of mine is that Empire caters to slightly more experienced players,
and as such, does not feel the need to go around schooling green poker newbies
like myself. But to be fair, the website does offer access to game rules.
After coming across these, I wondered if there was a Poker School like the one
found at Party Poker.
EMPIRE POKER SCHOOL
What is funny, is that there were no links to any
Poker School on the main Empire website. Yet, after downloading the
software (which seemed to take a millisecond...very good), registering, closing
the software back out, and then starting it up again, an Empire Poker School
pop-up materialized. I went ahead and checked it out. To further confuse
me, when I got to the school's website there was a message that gave a bonus
code for $35 Free. However, to claim it, the bonus code needed to be
entered at the time of registration - which I already did! (I later found
out that this bonus was only for playing the Poker School software. I also
found out later - at least according to the website - Empire is not giving a new
member bonus)
Since I was a little confused before I even
stepped foot in the poker lobby, I thought about contacting Customer Support.
I went back to their website and found out they only offer support via email.
No toll-free telephones - just email. For me, this is not a good thing,
especially after past experiences of unreturned mail. Even in the casino
lobby itself, there is no live support...just far-away, distant email.
COMPETITION
The players at Empire seemed to be more tough at
Empire - at least at the free tables. Sitting in on the big-money real
tables, the action revealed that many of these players were Soft. However,
don't let that fool you, because the softest players were always the one's who
were winning the most money. Although this might just be a fluke,
aggressive players may want to think twice about trying to take advantage of
soft players.
If there was any other perk that should be
mentioned about Empire Poker it is most definitely their Comp Program. The
comp points are awarded like any other online comp program. However, in
addition to using them for Free Roll tournaments, there is a vast online shop
that offers goodies ranging from iPods and clothing to mini-fans and flasks.
