Bluffing
Although bluffing at
online gambling is not quite the same as it is at the actual poker
table in the casino, it can still be done. It can also be
called out by other players, if done recklessly. And one of
the biggest ways that players recklessly bluff is by doing it too
often. Especially when playing online, all other players have
to go on in calling out your bluff are your betting patterns.
They cannot see your face and eyes, hear your voice, or scope out
your physical presence. Therefore, the key to successful
online bluffing is to not create a betting pattern for yourself.
Mixing up your actions,
while still keeping in mind the true potential of your initial hand,
takes some practice, and involves paying attention to betting
patterns other players may inadvertently be forming and sharing.
For instance, if you have repeatedly folded early on in previous
games, and have received a very good starting hand for a new game,
you may want to play a much more aggressive betting pattern as early
on as you feel comfortable. If you end up winning the hand,
players will begin to respect your actions. Therefore, later
on in the game, you may want to use the same aggressive tactic for a
much weaker hand (considering that you have already determined other
players to not be holding very strong hands, who, regardless of what
they think about your hand, may end up staying in the game).
So you see that your
actions speak for themselves when at the online poker table.
We have found that taking the following actions play very well in a
bluffing strategy that will not pin you with a betting pattern that
other players can see and call out:

The more tight players
there are at the table, the more bluffing you should be doing
overall.

The more players there
are at the table (greater than six) the less bluffing you should
be doing overall.

Of all the betting
rounds, the river is the most advantageous to instigate a bluff -
Just be sure to take note how other players receive your move.

In the last seat, you
can essentially buy yourself a free card by betting when all
players have not done prior in the round. Do not overuse
this, for this is a tactic used by many bluffers who may know what
you are up to. If you are playing with less experienced
players or very tight players, this is a good one to use.

As soon as a weak pair
shows in the community cards, a bluff can be used to plant the
thought you may be holding a three of a kind.
