Different kinds of bluffs
When playing poker online, at
land-based casinos or even your weekly pick-up game, it is important
to know that bluffing comes in several different forms. So, the
reason for bluffing on a regular basis depends upon the cards that
you are holding in your hand, what you think the other players are
holding in their hands, and what you think they believe you have.
Below, we will cover some of the most
common ways for poker players to bluff. Even if you are playing
online at a poker room, players will bluff. While you will not be
able to actually see each other’s body language, you will be able to
recognize patterns where players typically do bluff. No matter where
you are playing consider that following when playing poker next
time.
Betting or raising
with a helpless hand
– When a player does this, they have a weak hand but act as though
they have a strong one. This maneuver is reversible as well. A
player can act as though they have a poor hand when in fact they
have a very good hand.
Betting or raising
on during inexpensive betting rounds
– A player will use this bluff to get a free card later on in the
hand, when the cost of a wager doubles.
Betting with a
semi-bluff
– This is typically a bet with a hand which, if called, does not
seem to be the best hand at the time but has potential of outdrawing
the hands that originally called it.
With a semi-bluff (not a bluff from a
helpless hand), a player will find two different ways they can win
the hand.
- Their opponent might believe the
bluffer has the hand they are representing and fold because if their
belief.
-
If the opponent
calls, the bluffer might be able to catch the card they needed
