Bluffing
and the strategy behind it
Okay, so the next time you consider committing larceny when playing
the wonderful game of poker - consider the next few paragraphs
before hand.
One
important thing for you to consider when thinking about bluffing is
to be conscious about just how many players you have to pull one
over on. Maybe one or two players can be bluffed, but a table full
of players will prove very hard to conquer.
You
will want to know that a bluff does not have to work to make it the
best decision you made at the time. Think about it – you are
typically risking one wager to gain an entire pot of wagers. That’s
not the worst investment you can make. Honestly, it only has to work
occasionally to be the right thing to do. Also, if you are caught, a
bluff can be good if it causes others to call when you are wagering
a strong hand.
You
will obviously not want o bluff against a pro. On the other hand,
you don’t want to waste time bluffing someone who is an extremely
weak player. Aim your bluffs at worthy opponents. Players that are
below par will usually call – to see if you are bluffing. Expert
players will most likely weed you out right away.
For
God sake, do not be one of those poker players that bluffs just to
bluff. Don’t do it just to advertise your self. Only bluff when you
think by doing so you could succeed. You can get enough
advertisement when your bluff is caught (because you will get caught
sometimes) no matter how well you gauge your chances of success.
A
good time to bluff is when all of the other players at the table
check on the previous round of wagering. Even better during an
expensive round of betting, but know that your chances will dwindle
if any new exposed cards appear to be something that may have made
another player’s hand.
Another good thing to do is to imply that you have a certain hand.
If other players think you may have a certain hand, they will be
more likely to cave if theirs is not up to it.
Always prey on the weak links at the table. Wow, that sounds mean –
but this is poker and the idea is to win. Just remember not to
bother with the players that are not smart enough to even react in
any way that may be to your advantage.
When
bluffing, you want to aim for flaw-free, aggressive image. Play the
game as strategically recommended. This way, when you do bluff, you
will be thought of as a selective, thoughtful player and the other
players may not expect a bluff from you. Meaning, if you don’t play
loose and wild – like a loose cannon, you will be more likely to be
thought of as a non-bluffer. – or at least not a regular bluffer.
One
other recommendation we will make is that you try to bluff once in
awhile when all the cards are out on the table and you have nothing.
Do not overdue it here! But, if you have a hand that can beat a
draw, save that additional wager to win in a showdown.
Now
that you have read this helpful article, you are on your way to
becoming an even better poker player. Enjoy.
