Texas Hold'em Tricks for playing
the Flop
Assuming you know the
basic way this game is playing - meaning how it's deal and hand
ranking, you will find these tips for the flop to be of great
service to you and your online casino Texas Hold'em game-play.
The Flop is the first three
cards dealt face-up in the center of the table (AKA community
cards). Assuming that you decide to stay in the game after your
first two (private) cards have been dealt to you, the flop is very
important part of Texas Hold'em.
The flop should always fit your hand.
No matter how awesome your first two cards are, an bad flop can
strike them right down. If the flop doesn't strengthen your specific
poker hand or provide you the possibility of a very strong hand -
you should throw the hand away.
The flop truly is this games defining
moment. Different than 7 Card Stud, where upcards are dealt one at a
time, in Hold'em the flop you see 71% of your hand. So, if it hasn't
improved your first two cards or offered a very strong possibility
of a great draw, save money and fold.
In order for you to get a good idea
about how good your flop really is - pay attention to the other
bettors in the hand. Position is key in this game. Where you are
sitting at the poker table in relation to the dealer changes your
hand playability as well. There are hands that you would not ever
consider playing from the early (just to the left of the dealer)
position that you would definitely play in the late position (last
to act on a betting round).
Meaning, you have a better chance in
winning a hand if you are holding a mediocre hand in the late
position if the bettors before you in that round of betting didn't
come-out with big bets. If the players before you don't bet a lot of
money on their turn to do so, they probably are not holding a strong
hand. It's a bit more complex than this, but you can better
understand the power of your hand sitting in the late position.
Also, keep in mind that if you
flop a big hand, give the other players the chance to get the second
best hand, but try not to give them a free card later that would
beat you. If you flop a draw, stay in the game as long as the pot
gives a better payoff than the odds against you making your hand do.
If you think these few tips over, you
will begin to understand a whole new dynamic to this complex but fun
poker game.
